Why do I need to train for SEMS?
Training is necessary for several reasons: First, operators will require that all personnel at their facilities are trained on SEMS.
Second, the federal agency charged with enforcing SEMS -- that's the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement or BSEE -- has made it clear that regulatory personnel will be visiting offshore facilities and interviewing workers on their knowledge of SEMS and everyone working at an offshore facility needs to be prepared to answer questions about SEMS.
The third reason may be the most important: SEMS is a major new requirement of the offshore industry and all industry personnel need to know about it, without exception. SEMS is now part of the job.
