What is SEMS?

SEMS refers to Safety and Environmental Management System. This is a new federal requirement that will impact everyone working in the offshore industry. Offshore operators are now required to have a SEMS plan in place for each of their facilities.

This plan ties together all aspects of operations, including all existing safety procedures. The point is to make sure there are no gaps in the safety system that could lead to an accident. Think of SEMS as a systematic, comprehensive strategy for protecting the health and safety of workers and the public and safeguarding the environment.
